Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory held it’s annual Family Safety Day, Saturday, September 7, 2019. The event was held in Warsaw’s Central Park from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.
New this year was The Kasey Program. The Kasey Program uses Labrador Retrievers to demonstrate safety skills such as Stop, Drop & Roll, checking the door to see if it’s hot, crawling under the the smoke, along with other fire related safety skills. Another popular event from last year returned: the Junior Firefighter Challenge. The Junior Firefighter Challenge simulates activities of a firefighter. Children carry a hose, crawl through a tunnel, spray water at a target, and drag a manikin. Public Works demonstrated crosswalk safety and allowed children to place a hand print on the bed of a city dump truck. Some other events included:
Bucket truck rides from REMC
Fire extinguisher simulation
Ronald McDonald mobile unit
Helicopters and many other emergency vehicles
Many organizations dealing with safety had displays along with several hands-on educational activities promoting health and safety. Thank you to all the participants that helped make 2019 Family Safety Day a success. Special thanks to Lutheran Health Network, KCH, and Kosciusko REMC for their sponsorship.
Congratulations to this years winners of the bicycles and child car-seats.
Family Safety Day is presented by the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and sponsored by Lutheran Health Network, KCH, and Kosciusko REMC. Family Safety Day offers free health and safety hands-on learning activities, presentations and games.
Family Safety Day event that was scheduled for September 17, 2022 has been cancelled. Construction projects that will begin on the Center Lake Pavilion have caused space and safety issues for this event. When a date for the next Family Safety Day has been secured the information will be shared.
