Material Types & Examples
The following are examples of items that you can and cannot recycle:


Clear, brown, or green food container jars and bottles
are recyclable glass materials. Please remove lids and wash these items before recycling. Non-recyclable
items include:
  • Ceramics
  • Cooking glass
  • Drinking glasses
  • Eye glasses
  • Flower pots
  • Light bulbs
  • Mirrors
  • Window glass

Recyclable paper items include:
  • Catalogs
  • Cereal boxes
  • Grocery bags
  • Junk mail
  • Large boxes (please tie and set beside bin)
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Office paper
  • Phone books
  • Slick ads
  • Small cardboard boxes

Non-recyclable paper items include:
  • Facial tissue
  • Food-contaminated paper
  • Paper towels
  • Paper used to house-train pets or for bird cages
  • Wax or plastic-coated paper
  • Wet paper of any kind
Aluminum and metal beverage cans, steel food containers, and empty aerosol cans are recyclable metal materials. All labels can remain on these items. Non-recylable metals include:
  • Electrical parts or wiring
  • Fencing
  • Plumbing fixtures or fittings
  • Scrap metal of any kind
  • Siding
  • Window frames

Please remove lids and wash any plastic materials before recycling. Recyclable plastics include:
  • Milk jugs
  • Numbers one and two containers (numbers are located inside the recycling triangle on the bottom of most containers)
  • Soap and hair-care containers
  • Two-liter pop bottles

Non-recyclable plastic materials include:
  • Combs
  • Cookware
  • Diapers
  • Film materials (shrink wrap, dry cleaning bags, etc.)
  • Flower pots
  • Numbers 3-7 plastic bottles
  • Plumbing supplies
  • Styrofoam products
  • Swimming pools
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toys
  • Tupperware
